I’m a big believer that it’s really about ore body knowledge and going upstream to gain a better understanding of your ore body.

The process plant is generally a fixed asset. It has some flexibility, but not much. If I were to prioritize investment, I would focus on understanding the ore body, understanding the reserve, and how that reserve is structured in a mine plan. Effective mine planning is crucial—whether it involves ore or waste removal—and removing waste efficiently offers the greatest return on investment.

If waste ends up in your ore stream, you dilute its value. Conversely, leaving ore in waste means losing revenue. That’s why it’s critical to focus on the front end: understanding your reserves and ensuring your mine plan aligns effectively.

Today, we can utilize dynamic modeling and simulations to address potential challenges. These tools allow you to explore “what if” scenarios and better prepare for the future.
