Comparing Actual and Planned Mine Layouts Using K-MINE

In this video, we’ll explore how to conduct essential mine surveying operations for underground mining. We’ll demonstrate how to import mine data, perform comparisons between actual mine developments and planned designs, calculate volume differences, and create informative cross-sections using K-MINE.

Importing Mine Survey Data

K-MINE provides multiple methods for importing data, but the most convenient method for mine surveyors is using the mine surveying database. This approach is efficient, straightforward, and highly reliable.

Specifically, K-MINE manages these operations through the Office Studies database—a powerful toolset designed to simplify field data processing and automate routine surveying tasks. Users can effortlessly handle electronic instrument data and perform calculations for tacheometry, leveling, and other surveying methodologies. Additionally, the software allows for easy generation and printing of final reports.

Equipment Compatibility

K-MINE integrates seamlessly with various surveying equipment brands, including Topcon, Leica, Trimble, Sokkia, and many more. This extensive compatibility makes data import universal and user-friendly, reducing barriers to effective mine surveying.

Comparing Actual and Planned Layouts

Once your data is successfully imported, you can visually analyze different sections of your mine. For instance, let’s select and analyze the yellow level. By overlaying the actual mine development against the planned layout, you can quickly observe discrepancies.

However, visual observations are just the beginning. To gain deeper insights, numerical calculations are necessary. Using K-MINE’s Calculate Wireframe Volume feature, you can precisely quantify the volume differences between actual and planned layouts. This tool allows for the simultaneous calculation of multiple wireframes, delivering clear results instantly displayed in an easy-to-read table.

Generating Cross-Sections

To further evaluate the precision of your underground development, K-MINE offers a versatile and straightforward cross-section tool. You simply draw one or more lines across the area of interest, select your desired template, choose between 2D or 3D modes, and set the location for your output.

Analyzing the cross-section generated for our selected area reveals minor deviations. Yet, extending the analysis to a longitudinal section shows much more significant differences, highlighting areas that require immediate attention and further analysis.
